OUR MISSION & VALUES

OUR MISSION & VALUES ❊

kind

Our desire is to create a nurturing community for everyone, from budding artists to those seasoned in their crafts. Creating art and sharing it with the world is deeply vulnerable. Entering the craft market sphere can be daunting, and we hope to provide a gentle experience regardless of a vendor’s experience level. In order to make this possible, we welcome new ideas and feedback. We believe that feedback is a gift and that listening to our community provides all of us with opportunities to grow. We support each other because we need each other. We’re outsiders and misfits. We’re vulnerable and resilient. We’re tender and we’re tough. We strive to approach everything through a lens of openness and kindness.

ANTI-CAPITALIST

Atlanta is rapidly gentrifying, making rent unsustainable and shuttering vibrant cornerstones of community. Despite this, Community Market has thrived by sharing resources, trading knowledge, and creating an environment that values collaboration over competition. Community Market has an inherently anti-capitalist spirit because we believe that we are stronger together. We reject the myths of scarcity and separateness, both capitalist lies, because we know that there is enough for everyone and that the world we are dreaming of requires all of us. Art and beauty exist in abundance, especially in Atlanta. At Community Market you’ll find authentic voices of Atlanta and see the true heart of the city that can never be erased.

TRANSPARENT

Everyone deserves to start a business with the support of their community. Our work is specifically to uplift those who live at the intersections of multiple marginalized identities (e.g., race, gender, class, sexuality, ability status) because oppression leaves us feeling unheard and unseen. Community Market creates transparency around making the venues we choose safer spaces. When you enter a Community Market, we want you to feel just that — Community. It’s not about who you know, but who you’ll meet and the magic that will happen when we are in solidarity with each other. We cultivate a space to collaborate and make connections and strive for accessibility for everyone. Queer, Trans, Disabled, Neurodivergent, and People of Color to the front!
